What is the strangest thing you’ve kept in your freezer? For me, it was a pair of pajama pants. But I think Peter Frederiksen takes the cake when it comes to weird. After all, he had 21 clitorides (or clitorises) in his freezer.
Peter Frederiksen, originally from Denmark, owned 2 gun shops in South Africa when he was accused of sexual abuse, intimidation, and domestic violence. When police searched his home, they were shocked by what they found. Lead investigator and warrant officer, Lynda Steyn, said they found cameras, photographs, and packages containing female panties and strands of pubic hair. When they opened the safe that Peter kept in his bedroom, they found even more panties amid his firearms.
They discovered anaesthetic drugs and surgical devices, and then when they opened the freezer, they discovered 21 packages containing the female genital parts, neatly labelled in plastic bags.
When questioned about the items found in his home, Peter said the allegations were “totally unfounded,” claiming the items belonged to his wife, who had been in contact with “witch doctors.” In an interview with Danish newspaper, Ekstra Bladet, he said, “It is my wife who uses the stuff and not me. I told her many times that she had to pick up the stuff in the refrigerator.”
Yet it was his estranged wife, Anna Matseliso Molise, who had informed police that Peter had also cut off parts of her genitalia while she was incapacitated.
Peter’s claims of innocence did him no good, as he was held in police custody. Mysteriously, just a month later, Anna Matseliso Molise, who was to be a key witness in the case against Peter, was shot dead outside her home in Maseru, Lesotho. Peter became the key suspect in her death, being accused of conspiring to have her killed from jail.
Peter kept diaries, and in court, the contents of those diaries came to light. Inscriptions described in detail the acts he performed with a minor. When asked about the details, Peter told the court that he could not remember in detail why he had made certain notes. The more he was asked about the notes he had made regarding the minor, he became even more frustrated.
In the end, Peter Frederiksen was convicted of 36 offences, including the production of child pornography.
Interesting enough, none of those charges were related to the refrigerated clitorides. In South Africa, the National Health Act does not make the removal of human tissue without the persons permission illegal. Additionally, performing the act in an unregistered place was also not illegal.
The act of FGM or Female Genital Mutilation, still takes place in South Africa. The traditional practice is often justified as a means to suppress a woman’s sexual desire, thus preventing “immoral” behavior. Violence against women is a major problem in South Africa, where, according to a study by the Gender and Health Research Unit, a woman is killed by her partner every 8 hours. Further research suggests that the country has the highest reported rate of women murdered by shooting than any other country not currently engaged in war.
