In August 1990, fear gripped the people of Gainesville, Florida. Students were being killed, mutilated, in their college dorms. Classes were canceled, everyone took to carrying baseball bats with them wherever they went. People slept in shifts and no one went out alone. The Gainesville Ripper was out there. A killer who inspired American screenwriter, Kevin Williamson – the creator of the Scream movie franchise.

The Odessa Catacombs and the Legend of Masha

When we think of catacombs, we think of underground tunnels and chambers, locations where bodies were stored in lieu of a cemetery. Perhaps the most popular of catacombs is beneath the city of Paris, France. There you will find the skeletal remains of more than 6 million people. What you may not know, is that the largest catacomb system in the world is the Odessa Catacombs in Ukraine. There you will find the legend of Masha.

Is Sallie a Demon? The Sallie House

Sallie lay awake on the operating table as the doctor began to cut into her. The anesthesia had not yet taken effect, but the doctor was anxious, eager to remove her appendix before it burst. Her screams could be heard throughout the house until her body went limp and they suddenly stopped. Sallie was dead, and no one would have imagined what would happen next. The house is now known as the Sallie House.

The Unsolved Alphabet Murders

Parents have a lot to think about when naming their new baby. What does a name mean? Do you want to honor a relative by using theirs? What are potential nicknames? Some parents like to get cutesy and creative, and use alliteration in their childs’ names. This can be seen in some celebrities, like Amy Adams, Steven Spielberg, and Marilyn Monroe. For three little girls in Rochester New York, that name alliteration was a death sentence. They will forever be remembered as victims of the Alphabet Murders.

Addie Hall, the Queen of Hurricane Katrina

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina swept through the coastal areas of the Gulf Coast states of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, USA. One of the hardest locations hit was the city of New Orleans in Louisiana. Labeled a Category 5 storm, Winds In New Orleans gusted over 100mpg (160km/h). In total, the storm killed over 1,800 people and damaged or destroyed 275,000 homes. Addie Hall survived Katrina, but would only live to see one more birthday.
