The Unsolved Alphabet Murders

Parents have a lot to think about when naming their new baby. What does a name mean? Do you want to honor a relative by using theirs? What are potential nicknames? Some parents like to get cutesy and creative, and use alliteration in their childs’ names. This can be seen in some celebrities, like Amy Adams, Steven Spielberg, and Marilyn Monroe. For three little girls in Rochester New York, that name alliteration was a death sentence. They will forever be remembered as victims of the Alphabet Murders.

Addie Hall, the Queen of Hurricane Katrina

On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina swept through the coastal areas of the Gulf Coast states of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi, USA. One of the hardest locations hit was the city of New Orleans in Louisiana. Labeled a Category 5 storm, Winds In New Orleans gusted over 100mpg (160km/h). In total, the storm killed over 1,800 people and damaged or destroyed 275,000 homes. Addie Hall survived Katrina, but would only live to see one more birthday.

Gabrielly Magalhães: Buried Alive

In America, a child is sexually assaulted every 9 minutes. According to RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), approximately 63,000 children are victims of sex abuse every year. Of those, only about 29% of cases result in an arrest. In Brazil, in 2019, 17,000 cases of sexual violence against children and adolescents were registered. For 10-year-old Gabrielly Magalhães, as soon as she reported her abuse to her mother, she was doomed.
